- Land use plan
- According to the Land Use Plan of the Town of Petřvald (status as of 9.7.2018), the area of the Evžen spoil heap is designated as areas SC – mixed residential, BI – individual housing, ZO – protective and insulating greenery, BH – collective housing in apartment buildings. The intended land use is not in conflict with the current state. Construction has not yet developed here. Before its commencement, thermal monitoring is recommended.

- Reclamation description
- The Evžen spoil heap was reclaimed in the past. It is covered with dense vegetation. The southern part of the spoil heap, below the railway siding, is used as agricultural land. The spoil heap is not fenced along its perimeter and is freely accessible.
- History description
- The Evžen spoil heap was used for depositing Carboniferous waste rock from the sinking of the former shafts Deym, Mariánka, Nálezná, Fund, and Evžen. The original Evžen spoil heap was divided into two parts. The old spoil heap is located north of the railway siding. The second part of the spoil heap is located beneath the siding tracks and to the south of them, toward road II/470 Ostrava–Karviná. This area of the original spoil heap has today been reclaimed, leveled into a flat bench, covered with an additional layer, and is used for agricultural production. On the southern side, the body of the spoil heap is stabilized by a retaining wall, which is fitted with drainage discharging into the sewer system.
- Material composition
- The specific mine from which the coal waste rock was deposited, the proportion of the main rock components, and if applicable the content of coal matter or combustible substances (and by which methodology it was determined). The waste rock fill at the Evžen spoil heap was strongly affected by thermal processes in the past. A considerable part of it is burnt-out. The extent of burnt-out and unburnt coal waste rock fill at the Evžen spoil heap has not been determined. Unfortunately, no laboratory tests of the physical-mechanical properties of the waste rock have been carried out here.
- Thermal activity status
- Thermally inactive
- Thermal activity description
- In the past, thermal processes were recorded at the Evžen spoil heap, which were remediated by covering with a layer of clay. Currently, no manifestations of thermal activity have been recorded. During orientation/preliminary temperature monitoring in 2010, temperatures of 12.1–16.7°C were found at a depth of 1 m below the ground surface, which corresponds to normal background temperature. Non-zero values of carbon monoxide content (17–35 ppm) were found in only two probes (Kresta – Hájovský 2011). No manifestations of thermal activity were found at the Evžen spoil heap at the time of the reconnaissance survey (18.8.2020). Given the current condition of the spoil heap and its coverage by an insulating layer and dense vegetation, the possibility of the onset of endogenous combustion (spontaneous heating/fire) is low. The risk would increase considerably in the event of earthworks exposing a larger area of coal waste rock.
- Recommendations - testing
- Basic tests of coal waste rock are recommended, including determination of loss on ignition.
- Recommendations - monitoring
- A one-time (single) stage of thermal monitoring using aerial imaging/surveying is recommended.
- Remediation proposal
- Recommendation of a suitable procedure for remediation of the thermal process with regard to the specific conditions of the spoil heap For the time being, only thermal monitoring is proposed.
